Hours ago, Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to the hospital. It was said that she had a rare condition, hyperemesis gravidarum, which results in severe vomiting in which if not taken care of, can lead to dehydration, weight loss, and a build-up of toxins in blood or urine called ketosis.

Otherwise known as acute morning sickness.

Yes. It’s true. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting a baby!

The royal baby will be born third in line to the throne, after Prince Charles and Prince William. He or she will one day be head of the armed forces, supreme governor of the Church of England and subsequently head of state of the UK and, subject to approval by the Commonwealth, 15 other countries.

St James’s Palace issued a statement announcing the pregnancy which states:

Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby. The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.

The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII hospital in central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, her royal highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.

Hyperemesis gravidarum often happens in very slim women who become pregnant and the demands of the pregnancy are overwhelming to the point of vomiting. The condition affects 2.5 per 1,000 pregnant women and can cause women to vomit blood. It usually passes after the first 16 weeks of pregnancy, but may also last longer. And thus, extra hydration and nutrients are needed to ensure the wellbeing of the mother and child. (Source)

Take care, Kate! We’re all rooting for you.
