Guardians Of The Galaxy — A ball of fun!
Denarian Saal played by Peter Serafinowicz calls these misfits turned heroes a bunch of a–holes early into the movie and hey, he’s not entirely wrong. Marvel adds a gun-toting racoon and a talking tree to its list of superheroes with the movie Guardians Of The Galaxy and it sure works in their favour!
Now, the new Guardians, lead by Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who was abducted from Earth as a boy and has been trying to get people to call him Star-Lord ever since is an outlaw who is always looking out to be number one until he realises that there are more important things at stake.
While on the hunt for a mysterious metallic orb, Quill meets, and eventually bonds with a bunch of other criminals. These other criminals include Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who just happens to be the deadliest woman in the galaxy is also the adopted daughter of villain Thanos, Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), a muscle-bound monomaniac who is out for revenge, Rocket, a racoon voiced by Bradley Cooper and Groot, a tree voiced by Vin Diesel.
After being thrown into prison together, these criminal turn heroes, make an epic escape and strive to keep the orb away from Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) who plans on using the orb to destroy the peaceful planet of Xandar.
Throughout the movie, director James Gunn piles explosions upon even bigger explosions as these guardians fight to protect the galaxy. Spaceship battles, close escapes and multiple ruckuses is seen throughout the movie as it cleverly shifts from self-aware silliness to touching character moments.
Apart from the brilliant choice of casts, the movie’s soundtrack comprising of 70s and 80s pop tunes made the Guardians Of The Galaxy a perfect counterpoint to movies that take their superheroes way too seriously.
We must say though, Groot’s trademark line “I am Groot” and the variety of readings Vin Diesel gives that line plus the heroism he demonstrates as well as Rocket’s thrill in firing machine guns steals the limelight from their other three companions in the movie.
Guardians Of The Galaxy hits cinemas on July 31st (Thursday) and it’s not something you would want to miss out on.
