Vampire galore at the 2014 San Diego Comic Con (SDCC)!
In Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries (TVD), everything fell apart. For starters, the Other Side was destroyed, Damon and Bonnie got sucked into/vanished into a blinding bright light, Tyler became human again, Alaric came back, and Mystic Falls could no longer support supernatural life aka “no go zone”. And because of that, the upcoming Season 6 brings a tonne of anticipation.
How are the people behind TVD planning to redeem the show? How does the existing cast plan to make the upcoming season interesting? Will S6 be a reboot? Will there be opportunities for Damon and Bonnie to come back? All is explained in this TVD trailer, which debuted during the panel at #SDCC2014:
Okay, just kidding! But you gotta admit that the “footage” is absolutely hilarious, no?
On a more serious note, TVD executive producer Julie Plec confirmed that S6 opens 4 months (in TVD time, not real time) after the S5 finale, after the characters have made some big choices in their lives and have moved forward in whatever way it is that they can move forward. She also confirmed that some are doing well while others aren’t.
We’re not sure who exactly she’s talking about but maybe Elena (played by Nina Dobrev), considering the fact that she lost both her witch bestfriend (Bonnie, played by Kat Graham) and off-and-on-and-off-and-on again love (Damon, played by Ian Somerhalder)? Tough times for Elena!
One thing we do know for sure is that Matt Davis is back as part of the TVD cast as Alaric Saltzman, since the character returned before the Other Side collapsed in the S5 finale! The actor made a surprise guest appearance at the panel and explained his return to the show. He confirmed that Alaric will be back but since he can’t enter Mystic Falls (read: no go zone), he’s going to be a professor at the University instead.
Actually, for the entire duration of the TVD panel, it seemed like it was a cast appearance and a Q&A session to satiate the fans more than anything else. No big reveals, no massive spoilers, no big names to add to the cast or anything like that. Watch:
In the above videos, the TVD stars also discussed how all of the characters have evolved. For example, Elena has gone from girl next door to a kickass woman with “so much depth” while Bonnie is the true epitome of what a strong woman looks like. Damon has softened, going from bad guy to the guy he is now while Stefan has taken quite the turn in many different ways.
Each character has been defined in their own ways over the past few seasons and the characters’ evolutions will continue to develop come S6.
Oh, and on the topic of whether Stefan and Caroline will eventually end up with each other or will Elena and Damon end up together again, the cast didn’t let up. Although, that made us even more intrigued to see how both the cast and crew are planning to pull off the coming season!
