Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak released a statement late last night to further clarify on the steps that are being taken to carry out investigations for Malaysia Airlines’ flight #MH17 crash. In his statement, he confirms that he was in contact with senior pro-Russian separatist leader Alexander Bodai and that he has agreed to hand over the 2 black boxes to a Malaysian team in Donetsk.

The prime minister said the agreement in “good faith” must now be followed by action in order to ensure the victims’ bodies are handled with respect.

As such, it has been just confirmed that MH17′s black boxes have since been handed over to the said Malaysian representatives/experts in the city of Donetsk. Both sides then signed a document, which Borodai said was a protocol to finalise the procedure. Col. Mohamed Sakri of the Malaysian National Security Council told the meeting the two black boxes were “in good condition”.

The handover came after refrigerated train cars transported the bodies of victims in Malaysia Airlines’ flight MH17 plane disaster to another eastern Ukraine city on Monday. That same afternoon, the United Nations unanimously backed a resolution calling for a “full, thorough and independent international investigation” of the disaster.

One baby step at a time for us. Stay strong, Malaysia.
