Neil Gaiman‘s fantasy novels have always been a hot topic amongst fans because of the possibilities them being turned into films or TV series. As it turns out, it’s finally happening now! With so many novels being turned into films or TV series (such as ‘”The Fault in Our Stars” and “Gone Girl“) this year, “American Gods” is all geared up and ready to be added to the book adaptation lineup. Starz announced a script for the showrunners, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. FMNA, who acquired the right to adapt the novel, will be producing the series as the two will write for the pilot script and showrun the series together along with Gaiman.

In a statement regarding the TV adaptation, Gaiman commented:

When you create something like American Gods, which attracts fans and obsessives and people who tattoo quotes from it on themselves or each other, and who all, tattooed or not, just care about it deeply, it’s really important to pick your team carefully. You don’t want to let the fans down, or the people who care and have been casting it online since the dawn of recorded history. What I love most about the team whom I trust to take it out to the world, is that they are the same kind of fanatics that American Gods has attracted since the start. I haven’t actually checked Bryan Fuller or Michael Green for quote tattoos, but I would not be surprised if they have them. The people at Fremantle are the kinds of people who have copies of American Gods in the bottom of their backpacks after going around the world, and who press them on their friends. And the team at Starz has been quite certain that they wanted to give Shadow, Wednesday and Laura a home since they first heard that the book was out there. I can’t wait to see what they do to bring the story to the widest possible audience able to cope with it.

In return, Bryan Fuller described Gaiman’s work as the holiest of holy toy boxes that was all manner of magical things. He went to say that Michael Green and himself are thrilled to unleash the fantastical titans of heaven and earth with Neil’s vividly profilic imagination.

With over 30 languages being translated for the novel, “American Gods”  has earned a number of awards including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The cast has not been revealed yet, but fans are already hoping that “Game of Thrones” star Jason Momoa will play the film’s protagonist, Shadow Moon.
