As one of the pioneers of French house music and electronic music, it was just a matter of time before anyone decides to pick up Daft Punk’s successful story and translate their music career into a documentary film. We saw this coming a mile away and it’s finally happening!

Variety reports that BBC Worldwide Production France will be producing a documentary film about the French electronic music duo. The announcement was made at non-fiction confab Sunny Side and it will be directed by Hervé Martin Delpierre and co-written by Marina Rozenman. Co-producer Jean Louis Blot said that this film marks BBC Worldwide’s first commission from paybox Canal Plus Group.

Formed in the late 90s, Daft Punk consists of musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. For years on end, they’ve been producing some of the world’s greatest dancefloor hits including “Get Lucky” and “Lose Yourself to Dance”, which they released last year. =

For the past 20 years, the duo were almost never seen taking off their trademark helmets although Internet has revealed a few photographs of them without the helmets. The duo brought the European techno house scene to the mainstream music and sold more than 12 million albums worldwide.

They’ve also previously bagged 6 Grammy Awards.

Set to be a one-hour special, the documentary film is scheduled to air in 2015.  Now, the question is, are they going to take off their helmets and reveal themselves in the documentary film? A small part of us hope they don’t because that would kinda ruin the most crucial element of being Daft Punk, no?
