Happy Friday everyone!
Katy Perry’s Dark Horse music video has received a lot of criticism since it was first released on February 20th. Set in Memphis, Egypt a crazy long time ago, the pre-edited video saw a man wearing a necklace with an Allah pendant being burned when he courts Katy who appears to be representing an opposition of God.
A petition started by Shazad Iqbal on Change.Org,demanded that Katy removed the word Allah as he claimed that the usage of the word was highly controversial.
“Such goes to show, that blasphemy is clearly conveyed in the video, since Katy Perry (who appears to be representing an opposition of God) engulfs the believe and the word God in flames,” the petition read.
“This is the reason for lodging the petition, so that people from different walks of life, different religions and from different parts of the world, agree that the video promotes blasphemy, using the name of God in an irrelevant and distasteful manner would be considered inappropriate by any religion.”
The petition obtained over 65,000 signatures and Iqbal announced yesterday that the image has been edited out.
“Guys I’m thrilled to let you all know the name of Allah has been removed from the ‘Dark Horse’ video,” he said. ”We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support, so I thank each and every one of you deeply.”
