Looks like Team Malaysia will be proudly flying the flag in France once again this year for the annual MIDEM, set to take place in Cannes come February 3. Traditionally held during the Cannes Film Festival, MIDEM stands for “March International du Disque et de l’Edition Musicale”, and is attended by thousands of musicians, producers and talent scouts, making it the perfect place to showcase Malaysian music.
MIDEM 2014 will hold over 80 live music concerts and exhibitions from all over the world, and for the second time in succession, there will be a showcase of Malaysian artistes at what is possibly the largest music industry trade fair in the world. The Malaysian showcase, dubbed the ”Malaysian Supernova Concert” will see performance by Shila Amzah, Goldkartz, Thomas Jack and Azlan and The Typewriter…who are some of the best musicians our country has to offer. The acts have also been chosen based on their credentials and awards, being export ready and the singers’ ability to perform live before an international audience.
The initiative is funded by the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry in collaboration with the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM). Under our country’s National Creative Industry Policy, this marks the second participation by the Malaysian delegation at the world’s largest annual international business event for music and audio production.
Rim chairman Norman Abdul Halim says: “This collaboration between the government and the music industry is indeed encouraging especially if we are aiming for long-term impact and to generate larger economic returns within the industry and w e do hope to create a bigger impact with this participation and to get most from the event, both economically and creatively.”
He says Midem is the longest running trade show and conference in the music business attended by major labels, independent labels, distributors, agents, managers, promoters, media, digital music representatives and other important players in the global music community.
MALAYSIA BOLEH!
