To some of us, our idea of ‘shutting-off’ from the world comes in the form of music. With the constant technological demands, our smart gadgets finds the need to pair these demands with the most cutting-edge technology.

Problem is, with over 400 different brands out there, music enthusiasts such as the Editor would probably have to go through the pains of selecting close to 6000 models and varieties of portable audio devices.

However, at the top of the chain is Bose®, founded in 1964 by Dr Amar G. Bose. To date, Bose has been a top notch solutions provider when it comes to your personal audio needs. Today, our friends at Atlas Hifi Corporation together with Bose have introduced  two revolutionary  portable  audio equipments that will pretty much suit your everyday need.

So, what’s the big deal?

Taking your music everywhere

“The move towards mobile devices that accompany us everywhere have brought us into a new era of portable audio, where customers require high quality audio that is easy to carry on-the-go,” says Allan Dass, General Manager of Atlas Hifi. We couldn’t agree more.

The first product we were introduced to is the all new Soundlink Mini Speakers. This is a machine built for you to out-loud your opponent! So what’s the deal with this bad boy?

To start, the Soundlink Mini speakers are light (at 680 grams) and durable. Taking just 30% of the size of their bestseller, the original Soundlink Mobile speakers, they fit neatly into your pockets. The anodized aluminium housing, in which rests all that intricate technology that goes into the speakers, is scratch and fingerprint proof, enough to brave the everyday craves of music.

In the inside, Bose features several engineering advancements , like the new passive radiators that produces the lowest low notes and their new custom-designed transducers.

This means that the speakers can move twice the air as your regular conventional transducers, giving you clear, crisp mid- and high-frequency output.

What better way to introduce them to members of the media by giving them a walk-around of these speakers. We were blown away! From Norah Jones to Led Zeppelin, the experience of  a full range of music becomes lifelike and powerful!

The Soundlink Mini speakers uses Bluetooth connectivity. This reliable, plug and play wireless connection is easy to use at a touch of a button.

They come with a charging cradle, and there’s 3 different colored casings to choose from.  The charging cradle that comes with the speaker allows you to power-up these speakers continuously up to seven hours. Bose also provides a carry-bag, sold separately. This retails at RM1,100.00

The Importance of Being Quiet

Like me, I’m sure you prefer to listen to your tunes in a quiet environment. But this seem to be rather difficult, as portability comes with a price. Sure, there is ample noise-cancellation audio devices but they just seem bulky.

What if we told you that Bose understands this need, taking into consideration the constant noise pollution you encounter while listening to your favourite song. Whether it’s the sound of vehicles, pesky construction machinery or the constant naggings of your better half, the Bose QuietComfort 20 noise-cancelling in-ear headphone cuts them off like a charm!

Weighing in at a mere 43 grams, the QuietComfort 20 headphones is easy to carry. Boasting its unique noise cancellation technology, the headphones delivers crisp musical detail, something which most conventional headphones have ‘lost’. It’s remarkable Bose TriPort technology uses ports to increase effective acoustic space of the earbud to reproduce deep lows, lifelike vocals and clear instrumental goodness!

An active equalization by Bose tunes the frequency response for an improved, natural sound. When we took it for a spin, all of the music genres sounded better. Rich, full, deep, without the artificial boosts or distortions.

Now we know you must be thinking, these in-ear headphones pop-out almost all the time. Fear not, as Bose proprietary StayHear ear tips sit perfectly at the entrance of the ear canal with ease. Yet the ear tips aren’t there for style and comfort alone. The conical design of the headphones ensures an effective seal to passively block noise and a proper acoustic enclosure to improve noise reduction.

You might be wondering, noise cancellation doesn’t give its users the freedom to control what you want to hear at any given time. This issue is child’s play to Bose, as they have developed a state-of-the-art AWARE MODE. This mode allows you to keep the music going while your surroundings are heard clearly; from an approaching vehicle to a gate announcement at an airport at the flick of a button.

The Bose QuietComfort 20 series is powered by a rechargeable battery which provides 16 hours of uninterrupted playback. Fear not, if the battery is depleted, the music plays on minus its noise cancelling abilities. Built with an inline microphone, you can take that important call just in case.

The headphones comes in two varieties; the QC20 which is compatible with most Android, Windows or Blackberry phones and the specifically designed QC20i for select iPhones, iPads and iPod models.

These headphones retail at RM1,560.00 and is up for grabs at the all new Atlas Experience Showroom at the Gardens Mid Valley Shopping Centre.
