It’s 2013, and you if don’t know Miley Cyrus right now… chances are you’ve probably been living in a bunker under North Korean soil.

Destiny Hope Cyrus, or Miley as the world knows her is definitely the trending topic of 2013. From racy photo sets with Terry Richardson; being on countless magazine covers, to “twerking” on the VMAs and behaving completely ratchet at any given time as if it was her religion to do so… beyond all that drama and hype that comes with being Miley Cyrus these days, lil’ ‘Hannah Montana’ gives us all a reason why we should not judge someone or kill their vibe. One word. “Bangerz.”

Clearly, no one can quite expect what to expect from Bangerz. You might recall Hannah Montana being the wholesome, girl-next-door who could sing well. Most of the numbers were good, some gave you a certain warmth, some were better avoided. But behind your mind, really lies the question of whether this disc is going to be a complete suck. Because you see Miley on TV, ‘twerking’ and ‘turnin up’. And then you hear that she’s working with Britney, Nelly & Mike Will is executive producing the album and you’re not sure off what is to be of her new album. You see her adapting characterics like she’s a bonafide hood-rat. Like Kesha part two but more with more black girlfriends *does Z snap*

Essentially, it’s just the same person inside. That same old country girl, with that same old soul. And with the same old heart when she sings. Yes, maybe a change of location & yes, maybe a completely ridiculous image makeover. But as it stands, Bangerz is probably her best work so far. In fact, it’s the best representation of what she is right now. Because under the possible facade of a rebellious, post-pubescent teen is yet another girl who hurts just as bad as Adele. A young woman vulnerable to ideas of love and the harsh realities that come with it. All these feelings are apparent in joints like the Future assisted ‘My Darlin’, ‘Adore You’ & ‘F U’ with French Montana to name a few.

Then, of course, there’s the smash hits ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball’ which is her cement to superstardom. Miley’s fourth studio album, locks in 13 songs in total giving the listener a varied feel of musical genres, all effortlessly fused into one product that surprisingly works hand in hand, making the experience of listening to this album actually not that bad after all. Tracks like ’4×4′ with Nelly and ‘Love Money Party’ make it an enjoyable album to get you in the best mood for party or rather ‘turn up’.

Some may opine that Bangerz is set to be one of the better Pop releases of the year, which is befitting…but also, the heavy inclusion of Hip-Hop, Synth Pop and some Country influences in the record may win cross-culturally, especially in time of constantly blurring lines of music genres. Nothing groundbreaking per say, and don’t expect this to win Grammy’s but you just cannot deny Miley and what she has become, at least musically. Which is more crazy, sexy and cool.

Bangerz of an album, this one!
