A tough nine-year-old cat named Carmen was given a second chance in life when her adoptive cat-mommy, Angela, spotted her trying to cross a busy street, totally ignoring all honking horns. The pretty cat was in fact deaf due to tumours growing inside her ear canals and outside on her ears. The vet had said that her condition has been left untreated for years causing deafness and great discomfort. The team made the difficult decision to proceed with ear ablation surgery – the removal of her ears and canals in both ears.
“Even though we understood it was in Carmen’s best interest to go ahead with the ear ablation surgery, it was really hard to see her right after. She experienced extreme vertigo, irregular eye movements and could barely move without falling over.” -Cat Town
Carmen is still looking a little rough on the edges but her quality of life will gradually improve when she is fully healed. We wish this furry little trooper a speedy recovery!
Cat Town is an independent, non-profit organization that operates through a partnership with the Oakland Animal Services, resulting in increased adoption and reduced euthanasia of at-risk cats and greater awareness about the needs of these vulnerable animals.
