Director-actress Elizabeth Banks was picked up by Universal recently to direct and star in their new film, “Invisible Woman”, which is based on her own original pitch.
The script for the film will be penned by “The Girl on the Train” screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson. Meanwhile, Banks will handle the production side of things with her company Brownstone Productions alongside co-founder Max Handelman.
Plot details for the film is still being kept under wraps, but sources say that the pitch made by the 45-year-old was very different from the “Invisible Man” film that is set to come out in February 2020, with no potential of a crossover between the two films.
This news follows the announcement of another Universal film, “Renfield”, which will be directed by “Rocketman” director Dexter Fletcher. The Fletcher flick is a new take on Dracula’s henchmen and it shows a new strategy adopted by the studio, who originally wanted all their monster IP to be part of a interconnected universe like the Marvel movies. The new strategy will be focusing more on filmmaker-driven projects that made the movies popular in the first place, allowing for more creative freedom for the makers of the film.
Hopefully things will turn out well for the “Pitch Perfect 2” director seeing as her last film, “Charlie’s Angels”, was a box office flop.
