Khazanah Nasional Berhad confirmed yesterday (Monday, 2nd March) that the Mercu UEM building in KL Sentral has been vacated for a cleaning operation after a senior staff member had contracted Covid-19.

Earlier this morning, we noticed that KL Sentral was trending on Twitter and decided to find out what the fuss was about. Apparently, there were rumours that the north and east side of the building were being shut down.

These “information” were shared across social media (namely Twitter and Whatsapp), raising concerns about safety issues since KL Sentral is the centre hub for public transportation. If that was the case, it would make it rather easy for the coronavirus to spread around.

As of this week, the 4 new cases of coronavirus (all Malaysians) brings the total number of infections in Malaysia to 29. 22 of those patients have since recovered and been released from hospitals.

Update (3rd March, 5pm):

According to MalaysiaKini, 7 new Covid-19 cases were reported today. It’s the highest single-day increase in Malaysia, now bringing the total number of cases to 36.

“14 more are still being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital and Kuala Lumpur Hospital. In all cases under treatment, they are in stable condition,” the Prime Minister’s Department was quoted as saying.

Local comedian Mamat Sepahtu (full name Mohd Noor Murad) recently tied the knot with his partner, Nordiana Ibrahim in a private wedding held at his residence in Kulai, Johor over the weekend.

Azwan Ali was enraged with the fact that none of celebrity friends – particularly Mamat’s former teammates Jep and Shuib – were present during the event. The famed TV host-actor later took to Twitter to vent out his anger.

“These rubbish comedians who started their career in the scene together with Mamat ex-Sepahtu – They didn’t even bother to show up during the wedding! This proves that they’re nothing but a bunch of rascals. “Friends” betraying their own friend. Typical idiot Malays! Tag them,” Azwan wrote.

Though he didn’t specifically mentioned anyone by name, it’s obvious to fans as they pointed out that Azwan was actually referring to Sepahtu. For the uninitiated, the three childhood friends formed Sepahtu (formerly known as Sepah) back in 2009. Their stint didn’t last long as the group disbanded 4 years later.

Shuib (full name Shahmira Muhamad) then posted a photo of Mamat during his solemnisation ceremony on his Instagram, clarifying the real reason of his no-show. “Congratulations, my friend! Sorry I couldn’t come because I was involved with the shooting of ‘Sepahtu Reunion Al Puasa’,” Shuib wrote on the caption.

The 36-year-old continued, “But of course, our prayers are always with you. Hopefully everything is well, I wish you will get a peaceful married life, happiness in this world and the hereafter, and become a good leader for your family. InsyaAllah… Congratulations Mat!!!”

“After Ashraf’s passing, I’ve been thinking about Bunga Citra Lestari (BCL). I wonder how will I react if I were in her place? So far, all of my loved ones are here with me. Thus, I’ve never experienced the pain of losing someone that are close to me,” the mother-of-one said in the chat.

Elfira continued, “My warm prayers are with BCL. Fingers crossed that such tragic event won’t happen to me. I’m not fully prepared to deal with the matter.” In case y’all don’t know, the “Qalesya” actress is already married to her non-celebrity partner, Faris Khairol Anuar.

Meanwhile, Malaysian songbird Misha Omar recently uploaded a heart-wrenching cover of BCL’s song “Cinta Sejati” on her Instagram. She opened the caption by citing the lyrics of the soulful ballad.

Oops! Ronan Keating found himself in a bit of a situation after he shared a misleading post on Instagram earlier this week.

In his now-deleted post, he said, “A snap shot of some of the Tankers in Singapore not allowed to dock because of the virus.”

The post was reportedly taken from airplane of the anchorage off the Marina Bay area to the south of Singapore’s Central Business District. The Irish frontman was unaware that this is exactly what one of the busiest ports in the world offshore Singapore looks like – 365 days a year (well 366, since 2020 is a leap year).

Many netizens in Singapore were triggered and proceeded to blast him on social media. The singer-songwriter was trolled with quotes from his own songs. “You say it best when you say nothing at all,” one commented. Another wrote, “Ronan Keating will have learnt that life really is a rollercoaster after being corrected“.

The city-state’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) also took to their platform to dispute Keating’s claim, explaining that no ships had been turned away due to the coronavirus and it is usually this busy.

“Every 2-3 minutes, a ship arrives or leaves Singapore. At any one time, there are about 1,000 ships in the Port!” MPA was quoted as saying. They also signed off the post with the hashtag #WeCouldntSayNothingAtAll in a jokey reference to the pop star’s smash hit.

To his credit, Keating – who turned 43 yesterday – reposted the same image to admit his mistake and publicly apologies for assuming. “I recently posted this pic after being told by a local in Singapore that the reason they were all parked up was due to the Virus. I have been recently informed that this is not true and that this is how the harbour always looks,” he wrote.

The singer continued, “I apologise if I offended anyone in my post you all know I would never purposefully do that. To all you haters out there, get on with your short life. I went to Singapore and did a gig when others were cancelling and the same in Jakarta. I feel very blessed to be able to do what I do. Peace and love to all and wash your hands.”

Regardless of the drama, Keating seems to be enjoying his birthday.

It’s time to update your app peeps! The WhatsApp Dark Mode feature has finally arrived!

Following months of beta testing, the most requested WhatsApp feature is officially available for iOS and Android users today (Wednesday, 4th March).

“During testing we found that combining pure black and white creates high contrast that can lead to eye fatigue,” a rep from WhatsApp said. “So instead, you’ll notice a special dark gray background and off-white colour that lowers the brightness of the screen, cuts down the glare, and improves contrast and readability.”

Users can now read texts without straining the eyes or distracting others in low light situations. To activate the feature in Android 10 and iOS 13, simply go to system settings and enable dark mode. On Android 9, you can go to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Theme and select “Dark”.

K-pop songbird Luna (루나) recently opened up about her honest thoughts about her former f(x) teammate, Sulli (설리).

The 27-year-old made an appearance in the latest episode of “Human Documentary People Are Good” (휴먼다큐 사람이 좋다), where she got up close and personal on several topics, including the unfortunate news of the idol-turned-actress’ passing.

During the session, Luna introduced Sulli’s pet dog, Bobby whom she’s taking care of now. “I got my dog around the time we were promoting the song ‘Hot Summer’. At the time, Sulli was so lonely that my mom and I decided that we should get one to keep her company. The dog that came to the dorm was Bobby, Sulli’s first dog,” Luna shared.

It was revealed that both of Luna and the “To The Beautiful You” actress had not seen each other since Sulli left the group in 2015. When she found out that Sulli passed away, Luna recalled, “I plopped down in the middle of the streets and cried.” 

Additionally, Luna (real name Park Sunyoung) revealed the final conversation she had with the starlet after a long time since her departure. “Before she left us to heaven, she called me. For the first time in 15 years, she spoke to me in an informal manner. She said, ‘Unnie (Sister), I miss you.’ I could tell that she sent the text after holding it in for a long time. I felt so guilty as an unnie,” she said.

The “Free Somebody” singer couldn’t hold her tears as she added, “I should’ve approached Sulli first and talked to her. I should’ve said something and told her that I loved her.”

Seeing the massive amount of reactions, Luna commented, “I was worried at first, knowing that I talked a lot about such heartbreaking topic. Many Malaysians were outrage when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was chosen as the country’s 8th Prime Minister. However, a Chinese lady found herself in trouble after venting her frustration online.

“Can hire a killer to kill the new prime minister,” she posted on social media. The woman was later identified as Penny Tai (not to be confused with the Mandopop singer 戴佩妮) on Facebook.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Penny was arrested yesterday (Tuesday, 3rd March) afternoon at approximately 2pm in Ampang Jaya. The police reveal that the 28-year-old lady works in a clinic, has no political background and has never voted.

Penny is currently being investigated under the Penal Code Section 506 (the offence of criminal intimidation) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 (threatened national security through the use of Internet). If found guilty, she could be put behind bars or faced with a fine up to RM50k.

Earlier this week, a 35-year-old man from Perak got into trouble after he used the f-bomb against Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. In his rant, Aaron Yee accused Agong of “undermining our country’s democracy”. He also boldly wrote, “And I won’t mind going to jail for this message”.

Following his arrest on Sunday (1st March), Aaron is being investigated under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. 2 other Facebook users – Gavin Lee and Haizad Azhar – also accused the King of racism and compromising the people’s democracy.

While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, posting them on social media might not be a wise choice.

Hot on the heels of Whatsapp’s new dark mode feature, Twitter is now testing its own version of Stories.

The company announced that their Stories format is called Fleets. Trials are being carried out in Brazil for the time being.

Fleets will allow Twitter users to post photos, videos, and text that disappears entirely after 24 hours. Unlike tweets, Fleets can’t receive likes, replies or retweets. This probably sounds familiar because most of the other popular social platforms have already been using this format.

Snapchat invented stories in 2013 and the app became a major hit. Instagram copied it soon after. Facebook Inc. eventually brought it to its products, namely Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger. The rest have also hopped on the bandwagon – YouTube got Stories (“Reels”), Skype got Stories (“Highlights”), heck even LinkedIn is on this!

Testers in Brazil simply click on the “+” button to post on their Fleet. Consumers can post videos up to 2 minutes and 20 seconds in length (or 512MB). So which Fleets will be displayed first on the home screen? For now, Twitter determines the displays first based on recency and mutual follows.

Twitter will run the test for a few months before deciding to roll out to global markets.

Enraged that not all are happy with the 35-year-old’s budding romance with her new-found “lover” Jad Issa, Sajat recently took to her Instagram to expose a number of local users who have attempted to destroy their relationship.

Sajat wrote, “OMG there are a lot of people who DM-ed my habibi (lover). They want to brak us up by exposing my real identity! For your information, my habibi doesn’t really give a damn. He knows who I am. Even his family members are familiar with me. I’m so happy because he accepts me for who I am.”

“Don’t waste your time in texting my habibi. Don’t ever try to do so because every single time he will screenshot the comments and show me what these netizens are saying about me. Rest assured that we have a completely honest relationship,” she further added.

The “Makhluk Penggoda” singer concluded by writing, “Most importantly, I’m a woman and our love is blessed between the two countries! We don’t have to entertain others.” 

However, many of her followers have come to Sajat’s defence. They even clapped back at the trolls for not minding their own business.

For those who don’t know, the lovebirds have gone public with their romance since Sajat ended her relationship with Coach Yin.

Another hilarious photo sees the mom-to-be resting her cheek on Wood’s shoulder from behind. She also has her hands wrapped around his body, while they poke fun at the baby bump. “The photo is a joke but the news is real,” the 31-year-old actor captioned the post.

The pair first met on the set of “Supergirl” in 2016. They got engaged in February 2019 and tied the knot last September. Benoist and Wood held their wedding ceremony at a private estate in Ojai, California.

Take note SitiZoners! Do not fall for fake details regarding Siti Nurhaliza‘s upcoming concert in Sabah.

According to the edited poster posted by the local singing icon below, she is scheduled to perform for several nights in a concert held at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) this April.

The “Kau Kekasihku” hit-maker has confirmed that she’s not participating in the concert. She further assured everyone that the event is actually fake and probably isn’t going to take place.

“Attention guys! I’m not involved with this event, nor will I be present at the mentioned venue and on that date as mentioned. To the person responsible for this matter, I request to not make use of my name and photos. I’m not taking part in this concert,” she wrote on the caption.

Siti continued, “I really hope that those who are involved will not make fun of such matter. As for the other artistes, I’m not really certain on whether they will be appearing or not. But I’ve never accepted any invitation to perform at this event. Please don’t fool the public.”

Apart from Siti, the concert allegedly features other big names in the music scene including Hael Husaini, Dayang Nurfaizah, Amy Search, Cakra Khan, among others. Even the three aforementioned local acts took to the comments section to shut down the false claims.

Katy Perry has announced her pregnancy in style!

The 35-year-old singer proudly displayed her baby bump at the end of her new music video, “Never Worn White”. After the big reveal, Perry tweeted, “omg so glad I don’t have to suck it in anymore” before adding “or carry around a big purse“.

Katycats (as Katy Perry fans are called) were already speculating about her pregnancy when she dropped some teasers hours before the full visual debuted. Meanwhile the song itself hinted on motherhood and more overtly, marriage.  “I’ve never worn white/ but I wanna get it right/ yeah I really want to try with you“, the pop star sings. “At the end of it all, I choose you and you choose me.”

The “American Idol” judge also took to Instagram Live to confirm the happy news. She touched on the fact that the coming months will be super hectic, juggling both the baby and new music.

“Not only will I be giving birth literally but also figuratively to something you guys have been waiting for,” she was quoted as saying. “So let’s call it a double whammy. It’s a two-fer.”

Another K-pop star will leave us in order to fulfil his mandatory military service next week.

Word has it recently that Seungri (승리) will be enlisting as an active duty soldier next Monday (9th March 2020).

As reported by Yonhap News, sources close to the former BIGBANG member claimed that he will undergo a 5-week long training at the 6th Infantry Division in Cheorwon, Gangwon-do. Having said that, the news has not been confirmed by the Military Manpower Administration or the Ministry of Defence.

Prior to this, Seungri was spotted partying with his friends ahead of his pending enlistment. Several photos captured during the event circulated online, including the one that showed him posing with a salute gesture.

In the midst of investigation on several charges made against him – including prostitution and overseas gambling, Seungri had apparently received the notification on his enlistment on 4th February. As a result, the ongoing trial will be transferred to the military court system.

The “Strong Baby” jam-maker was originally set to enlist on 25th March 2019. However, the plan came to a halt in order to make room for his investigation of his involvement in the infamous scandal.
